Hi, I’m a London/Norwich based designer. My work uncovers the meaning in the absurd. I investigate the fun tangible responses we could take to issues surrounding data collection, animal conservation, politics and food, materialising these ideas through print, film, 3D and written mediums.

InstagramEel-ectric Avenues2024 - ongoing
At the beginning of their life, the European eel migrates from the Sargasso Sea to European rivers and estuaries seeking fresh waters. But, OH NO! Along their journey, man-made barriers such as weirs, culverts, and locks hinder their chances of reaching such ideal habitats. This is a project exploring how we as humans can become greater ‘eel-vocates’, aiding the eels in their migration through connecting networks of conservationist to the wider community.
The European eel population has decreased by 95% over the past 40 years and are now classified as critically endangered. But why does this matter, why should we care? Eels play a vital role in the UK’s ecosystem, serving as a key food source for wildlife such as otters, bitterns, ospreys, and herons, while also helping to keep our rivers clean by feeding on decaying matter. Like many animals under threat in our rivers, if they are no longer, whole ecosystems could collapse.
So how can you get involved?
When beginning this project, I was seeking to design new ways of directly helping the eels on their journey upstream. However, as I began speaking to those within the conservation community, it became apparent that these systems already existed. Eel passes/escalators are effective in helping repopulate the European eel when implemented. The problem in fact their implementation. Without the demand and support networks around the eel passes/escalators, they are often never built or successfully monitored. What is needed is an increased connected network of ‘eel-vocates’.
Here I aim to help facilitate this. Below, I have left a selection of organisations which enable this action, so hence, go forth, discover, learn and get involved within the eel community. As I have found myself, this is a community waiting to welcome more, wanting to share their knowledge, all for the love of eels.
